Ferdinand Piloty der Ältere was in Homburg, Germany, on August 28, 1786 , and died in Munich on January 8, 1844. He was a German lithographer. He was the father of genre artist Karl von Piloty.
He worked in Munich, and between 1808 and 1815 he did 432 lithographs for the publisher Johann Nepomuk Strixner, basically after master pieces of the classical painting. We know engravings of him did after works by Lucas Cranach, the Younger, Anthony Van Dyck and Hans Holbein, especially.
Here you can see the artist's works that are part of the collection.
